AUSTIN, Texas – AUSTin police said Wednesday they have charged two men in the death of a 2-year-old boy in the city’s Southside neighborhood who authorities said was allegedly hit with a concrete baseball bat while walking near a home.
A video posted on social media showed a man walking near the home on the 5300 block of East Avenue on Nov. 18 with a plastic bat.
He said he was trying to stop the man from throwing the bat, but it flew through the air.
The video shows the boy fall and hit the concrete floor.
The boy’s mother said her son was struck with a blunt object.
The family said the child had suffered a fractured skull and suffered a broken leg.
Police say the boy had been playing with the bat when the boy’s grandmother heard the sound of the bat and called police.
The grandmother then went into the home, where she found the boy lying on the concrete, bleeding from a head wound.
The child was taken to University Hospital, where he died.
Austin police said they have no additional information on the incident and said no arrests had been made.
The Texas Department of Public Safety did not immediately return a call seeking comment.
